NEW TOYS !

I received a box from Model Hobbies  the other day, and inside were some new toys.....

Yes, more Colonial goodies- Tally Ho!
I'm envisaging Queen Victoria's men fighting all sorts of enemies on some sort of "Imagi-Nations" continent- got any suggestions for names for this mystery continent?

In my excitement I have already made a start on these little beauties. Here's a WIP photo:

British Colonials in grey serge.

Remember the Rangers I was painting for my son? Here's a picture of the other three I finished, all from the venerable Airfix Robin Hood set:

Sorry Paul, no WW2 stuff in this post ;)

    1. I hope so Rodger, I have finished painting those few Brits now- just need to spruce up the bases and give em a coat of varnish.

    1. Ah, I see what you did there, puts me in mind of the "Great Southern Land"....

  4. One of those great scores with all kinds of possibilities. I like the Gondwanaland suggestion. Sounds vaguely African, which is the Continent I most associate with this sort of thing. As Africa was known as the Dark Continent - full of inaccessible mystery despite its proximity to Europe - maybe something like Terranero or Terranera might fill the bill?

    1. Some interesting suggestions Archduke.
I was thinking I would have not only African types, but also Indian & Afghan.

  5. Great stuff John. How Imagination do you want to make it? VSF? Steam powered...everything! Think of the possibilities!

    1. At this stage I'm not inclined to go with VSF or steam powered stuff- but who knows? I think I've got my work cut out painting these boxes at the moment, but as we both know there's no need to rush :)

  7. You do know that you can get HaT figures from South Australia at Military Hobbies on Port Road? That is where I go to get mine, they always have the new gear and their prices are very good, please do yourself a favour and check them out- might be cheaper in postage!?
I have the British Infantry painted as a Boxer Rebellion Era figure- it looks really good, I like the sculpting. PS You do know that 1 box of Dervish or Mahdists won't be enough! Regards David

    1. Thanks for the heads up about Military Hobbies, unfortunately they don't seem to have a website with a product list- I prefer to order online if I can.
The prices at Model Hobbies in the UK are pretty good with the exchange rate the way it is, even their postage is reasonable, plus I have found it can be quicker to get stuff from the UK than some suppliers down-under.

About the Dervishes- yeah my mate said I'd need "fousands 'n fousands" to give the impression of the Mahdist hordes. Mind you, I'm not exactly trying to make it historically accurate. I do find the Sudan very interesting though- especially after reading Michael Asher's book "Khartoum:the ultimate imperial adventure".
