20mm Late War Germans...mostly...

Here's the second part of my recent 20mm Wartime Miniatures painting efforts, it consists largely of some new figures which are supposed to be forming part of a "Fall of Prussia" range for the late war. The other figures are pilots intended for WWI aircraft I think - cute little fellas.
The Germans are clad in a variety of camouflage gear, smocks, trousers & some in Zeltbahn. I have tried to depict Sumpfmuster 43 & 44 as well as the M31 Splinter Camouflage of the Zeltbahn.
For this my number one reference book was Stephen Andrew's "German Army Grenadier 1944-45", which is a wonderful source of coloured plates and information, great value for money- I only wish he would bring out an edition on Fallschirmjager too.

Why not commission me to paint you something?

    1. Thanks Greg. I find doing camo quite tricky, always something of a compromise.
If it's done completely realistically it just becomes a blur, but I'm not a big fan of
making it cartoony either. I think they call it finding the "goldilocks" solution :-D

  5. I find German camouflage confusing as hell! Nice work representing a range of patterns (along with the previous paratrooper so). Just the right balance between realism and making it work at this scale in my view.

    1. It surely can be confusing- that's why I'm glad I have the Stephen Andrew book for reference (as mentioned in post). But that doesn't even cover the SS or FJ variants. It helps to keep experimenting and find something that you are happy with.
