My "Anglo-Saxon Chronicle" - From one "Middle Earth" to another...

I have been very slow to take pictures of my Anglo-Saxon project, I'm usually taking pictures of commissions as my priority. I have painted quite a number of figures for this project over the last couple of years - very slow progress though. These pictures are of figures that I completed in the last month or so. I have used an unconverted GW metal Eowyn miniature - with feet pinned into a piece of rock (bark), and a Saxon Miniatures figure with a Little Big Men Studios banner & shield decal for the command base. The other figure is a converted metal GW Rohan Royal Guard miniature, which has had a new shield (LBMS decal), a redesigned helmet, a shortened cloak & hauberk, cloth bindings sculpted onto lower legs, and hair sculpted out the back of the helmet. I'm pleased with how they all turned out, and really took my time to get a colour scheme & details that I was happy with.

For my Youtube video which goes into more detail about the Royal Guard conversion go here:

All the best,
John.

    1. Thanks, for that. Yes, I guess there are plenty of natural tones there, perhaps the background contributes as well?

  3. Wow, stunning work, I seem to say that a lot about your work. The flag is awesome and looks like it is really made out of fabric which is rippling in the breeze.
I know these are for your Anglo Saxon Chronicles, but it's still a white horse on a green field so could easily pull double duty in ME.

    1. Hehe, thanks Andy very kind of you. The flag from Little Big Men Studios really helps to give it a lift I think. Oh yes, it was definitely done with Rohan in mind. :-)

  5. I quite love these figures. I have actually been going the other way, using Foundry Saxons for Rohirrim for my ME project. These are figures I would be happy to have in my own collection, as they could serve either way.
Thank you for bringing this wonderful flag to my attention. Even with the cross and the chi rho design, it could stand for a Rohan banner, as Andy says above. Who made the white horse shield transfer, there are quite a few makers of transfers on the LBM site?
    Cheers,
    Mike

  6. That's a truly inspiring paint job! Really love how they work as a group. I never thought about using LoTR miniatures for historical stuff but now that I see it...

    1. I really appreciate your encouraging words. The LotR figures have potential for historicals - unfortunately they are difficult to find at prices which compare with historical ranges, nevertheless I shall keep on hunting :-)

Here are some 17th Century character miniatures I finished recently.  28mm metal, mostly from Wargamer Poland: https://sklep.wargamer.pl/gb...
