A resin Stuart, plus metal & PSC Commandos?

I took a bunch of photos today of recently finished stuff, mostly WW2 - even some Germans (they will be in another post) plus a bit of work in progress. I hope you like them- I have been trying out some new backgrounds for my pictures too which seem to work quite well.

First up, a Ready-to-Roll resin Stuart with AB commander, fishing line aerial, paperclip MG, plus plastic, metal and greenstuff stowage. It has the markings for 8th Armoured Brigade Recce unit.

I've seen some great black and white pictures on Thanos's blog, I thought I'd give it a go too :)

Re the commandos- yes I know The Plastic Soldier Company don't make any British commandos, but the Bren team are made entirely out of PSC parts- British Infantry bodies with beret heads from their Universal Carrier kit- a decent match too. The other commandos are metal Battlefield miniatures.

Some WIP shots of a couple more commando bases. Both these have prone figures and require another prone or kneeling figure to go with them, I have a cunning plan for this....

I have a useful box of plastic British I can do a Dr Frankenstein on....

Plus I have recently received some excellent resin Beret Heads from Dan Taylor Modelworks...

These three packets will give me another 21 beret heads to use for conversions.

Next Time....Germans...

  2. Have you seen the rereleased Matchbox British Commando and the Caesar British Commando figures? They may a bit small. I couldn't make out if they were in you spares box.

    1. I remember the original Matchbox commandos- they probably are a tad smaller. The Caesar set I don't have, they look ok, although some poses would only be good for spare parts- I do have the Caesar British Infantry set however, & they are excellent.

  3. Outstanding! Your photography looks as good as your miniatures, and that's saying something! Lovely work as always John.

    1. Thanks Nick, I have been trying a bit harder with the photos- I have a compact Olympus, not one of those fancy SLR Digital things, but I find that some picture software on the PC helps too.
      Take Care,
      John.

  4. Cracking work John. The M5 is outstanding and I could never game with the Commandos as I think they are straight for the display case.

    Perfect score I think!

    1. Cheers Paul, very generous praise indeed :)
Mate, I wish I had a glass/perspex fronted display case, then I could put all my toys in it, that would be cool.

    3. I know, but it would be fun to look at them when they weren't on duty, instead of having them stashed away in drawers and boxes- out of sight & out of mind :)

    1. Thanks T, I'm glad you liked them. The conversions were relatively simple, just a matter of gluing on some different heads- simple but effective :)

  6. hello,

It an old entry but I am new to 20mm and you work is very inspiring.

What size of bases do you suggest for single infantry, two soldiers prone teams and 3-4 soldiers HMG?

    thank you!

  7. Hi Braxen, thanks for your kind words. Just checking your blogs, and you are a pretty impressive painter.
My standard basing is done on washers from the hardware store. Single bases are 20mm washers, prone figures are usually based on 30mm, and MG teams I base on 35mm or larger.
Welcome to 20mm scale too :)
I used to do 15mm WW2 but sold off my collection and went for 20mm for a variety of reasons.

17th Century Characters...mostly

Here are some 17th Century character miniatures I finished recently.  28mm metal, mostly from Wargamer Poland: https://sklep.wargamer.pl/gb...
