British "Lorry Riders"...

These chaps are from the HaT "British Tank Riders" set, but as you can see they are riding in the slightly more comfortable Bedford QLT lorry from Airfix. The QLT is not quite finished, still have decals, weathering & basework to do, plus canvas canopy & Bren gun to put on. Before putting the canopy on I thought I'd take some pictures of the passengers. I like these fellows, full of character & generally a very useful set- recommended.

So here they go, those Dorset chaps from 43rd Wessex Division, 130th Brigade- making their way to prepare for the crossing of the Seine. Enjoy:

    1. Cheers Dan. Boy, you were quick off the mark, I only just posted this.
I've now finished both the QLD & QLT Bedfords from Airfix (well apart from a bit of flock), hopefully I put some pics up on Saturday.

  2. Now this is great i've always known they will look great on trucks. It amazes me how you all get patches painted on this scale of figures.

    1. Thanks Greg. Yes, They look good in a lorry, but I don't think you could fit too many in without conversions, as they tend to have a fairly open posture- this could paticularly be an issue if wanting to pack them into a halftrack.
Patches- I like 'em, they give a bit of extra character.

    1. Thankyou Gowan. Yes, now I have the canopy on you can't see much of them- oh well, at least I know they are there.
By the way, are you still on the lookout for figures? I have some unpainted 1/72 plastic Russian Spetsnaz you could have. Give me a PM on the Guild if you're interested.
Here's what they look like on PSR:

    1. Ta for your generous comments Paul.
Yeah, I've got a thing for patches and fiddly detail... hmmm maybe I should try & paint the numbers on an officers wrist watch next? ;)

  8. These guys look just the thing to add character to vehicles on the wargames table - I daresay you could stick them into almost any open vehicle as well?

As well as the heads up, you have shown me how good these guys can look and the improvement they can make to the appearance of a vehicle.
    Thanks,
    Ion

    1. Thanks Archduke. The only downside with these chaps is that you couldn't really cram many into a halftrack as their positions are a bit spread about- as they would be when trying to stay upright on a tank.

  9. Really nice work. These are great models with loads of character. I have some myself but not painted to anywhere near this level of detail. The poses really capture a bunch of soldiers at rest they have a nice mix of equipment. No hovering weapons here, they're all being carried like they have real weight (especially the bren resting on the guy's knee). Good to see how they work with the Airfix trucks, I had wondered if this combination would work and you've certainly proved it does!

Nice work on the Bedford as well!

    1. Cheers.
Have to agree about the usefulness of these little chaps. Have you used the German Tank Rider set too? I havn't bought that one yet- I assume they would be just as useful?

    2. Yes. Personally I don't think the poses are as quite as good as the US and British, but they're still pretty good overall. Here they are:

  10. Hi JS, its a really shame you put a canopy on, can you take a pic with the canopy on for us, is it a removable canopy or fixed?

    1. Hi Dan. Hoping to put up pictures this weekend of completed vehicles. The canopy is fixed, I suppose it could be taken on & off but the struts where it meets the tray are a bit on the thin side.

      Cheers,
      JS

  11. These look just the thing. They really bring the wagon to life. I can see I'm going to have to invest in some myself. Thanks for this!
