A New Year's Assortment

An assortment of pictures for you today, various works in progress and a smattering of finished items.
In my last post I showed some Eureka 28mm Bears, I have now finished them all and given them a coat of gloss- they now reside on my daughter's bookshelf:

Next-
Waaay back  my friend Nick from Christchurch sent me some British Colonial Gattling guns with crews, I painted one crew in khaki and another in blue. I am finally getting around to doing something with the last crew which I am painting up in British red. These are 1/72 plastic figures from HaT. Here's what I've done so far:

Next-
Now and then I have painted up a Lord of the Rings figure from my son's collection, so, probably inspired by seeing The Hobbit, I painted up a couple more. These are GW figures of Elrond and Grima Wormtongue:

Next-
Some terrain related items.
Firstly, a WIP of a Scalescenes terrace of houses (this one will take me a while!):

Secondly, a WIP of some shrubs/small trees made our of plant roots:

Thirdly, some of you may remember a bit of bocage I was messing about with that had incorporated ditches- in this post HERE .
Well, this is how the finished item came out, not sure how robust it will be, but I reckon it looks more realistic than my previous bits of bocage:

Finally-
Some more WW2 stuff, just in case some of you thought I'd forgotten.
Here are some WIP shots of more British Commandos- figures from Elhiem, Battlefield and PSC- plus some AB crew figures for a Bren Carrier at the back:

I have more WIP WW2 stuff in the wings, like a Ready to Roll Stuart tank, and other unfinished models.

I have finished reading Stuart Hill's "By Tank into Normandy" during the Christmas Holidays-I highly recommend it to you as a great memoir from a tank commander of the Sherwood Rangers, 8th Armoured Brigade- I purchased mine from The Book Depository.

Stay Special.

John.

  1. Crikey John, you have been busy. That terrain is coming up a real treat in particular as are the Commando types.

All the best for the new year

    1. Not too busy really Paul, quite a number of those things have been hanging around for a while.
Glad you like the commandos- I have just ordered a book about them by Ken Ford, so hopefully that will inspire me to do a bit more painting.

    1. Thanks mate, glad you liked it. I was quite pleased with how the bears came out, and I think the gloss finish gives them an old fashioned "toy soldier" look.

  6. I love your bocage so much, that it has inspired me to go try and make my own just like yours! Have you got any work in progress shots to show different stages of how you got here? I'd really like to know also what flocking materials you used, especially the stuff that looks like vines sitting underneath the clump foliage.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. G'day. No progress shots available, apart from the early structural one which is linked to in the post. The strands you can see underneath the clump foliage are from a hanging basket liner which was made of coconut fibre. I used a variety of flocks, static grass & tufts. To be honest I think this was the only section of bocage that was made precisely with these methods, partly because it was more time & resource consuming, and also because it was less robust.

Here are some 17th Century character miniatures I finished recently.  28mm metal, mostly from Wargamer Poland: https://sklep.wargamer.pl/gb...
